Rockwell receives China Certification for Safety Products

MILWAUKEE, June 25, 2007 - Rockwell Automation announced today that it has received the China Compulsory Certification (CCC) mark for a majority of its safety product lines. This certification helps OEMs who are building machines and systems for the fast-growing, Chinese market to incorporate safety control systems that meet local product licensing requirements.

The CCC certification is assigned to the product and the factory that produces it. The Rockwell Automation, CCC-certified, safety product lines include cable pull switches (Lifeline), monitoring safety relays (MSR) and safety switches (Elf, Cadet 3, Trojan, MT-GD2, TLS, Spartan, 440G-MT, Atlas5). These products are manufactured at the company’s facilities in Germany, the Dominican Republic and the United Kingdom. In addition, Rockwell Automation is pursuing certification for other safety product lines, including non-contact interlock switches and additional safety relays. “China is one of the fastest-growing markets in the world and we are committed to helping our global end users and OEM customers meet the legal requirements necessary for them to be successful,” said Richard Galera, marketing manager, safety components.

The completion by Rockwell Automation of the extensive, five-step, application process saves OEMs time and money by eliminating the need for them to go back and certify the products themselves. The process took approximately nine months to complete and included several applications with supporting technical materials, product testing and factory inspections. Rockwell Automation began its certification process for safety components in the winter of 2006.

Other CCC-certified, Rockwell Automation product lines include motor control centers, contactors and accessories, circuit breakers, smart motor controllers, electronic overload relays, pushbutton and indicators, and the control relay 700 series.

The Chinese government agency, Certification and Accreditation Administration, created the CCC mark in 2002 and issued a catalog of 132 product categories required to obtain the certification before exporting or selling those products to China. Safety products subject to the CCC mark include relays, switches, controllers and contactors that operate above 36 volts. However, not all safety products need the CCC mark to be commissioned in China. Products that operate below 36 volts are not subject to compulsory certification, such as GuardShield light curtains, SensaGuard non-contact switches and SmartGuard 600 safety PLCs.
